10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Losing 10 Stone

Losing 10 stone (63 kg) changed my life—but not in the way I expected. Weight loss isn’t just about food and exercise. It’s emotional, mental, and deeply personal. Looking back, there are a few things I wish I’d known before starting. Maybe they’ll help you avoid some of my mistakes and get results with more confidence.

1. Weight Loss Doesn’t Fix Everything

I thought being slimmer would solve all my problems. It didn’t. It helped my health, confidence, and energy—but the real work was mental and emotional. You’re still you—just lighter.

2. Progress Isn’t Linear

Some weeks I lost weight. Some weeks I gained. Some I stayed the same, despite doing everything right. That’s normal. The key is staying consistent, not chasing perfection.

3. Willpower Runs Out

Relying on willpower alone was difficult. Planning, habits, and accountability got me further than motivation ever did.

4. You’ll Have Setbacks

You will slip up. That doesn’t mean you’ve failed. What matters is how quickly you get back on track. One bad day doesn’t undo all your progress.

5. Sleep and Stress Matter

I ignored sleep and stress for too long. Both massively impact cravings, energy, and fat loss. Prioritising rest made a bigger difference than I expected.

6. The Scales Don’t Tell the Whole Story

I was motivated with the number. But losing inches, feeling stronger, or fitting into clothes better often meant more than what the scales said.

7. Meal Prep Is a Game-Changer

Prepping meals made healthy eating easy. It removed decision fatigue and helped me stay consistent, especially on busy days.

8. You Need Support

Going it alone is hard. Whether it’s family or friends, or a community—having someone in your corner makes all the difference.

9. Mindset Is Everything

I had to change how I spoke to myself. I stopped calling myself lazy or weak and started acting like someone who cared for their body and mind. That shift changed everything.

10. You’re More Capable Than You Think

Seriously. You’re stronger than your excuses, habits, and even your doubts. I didn’t believe that at first—but I do now.
